Skip Besthoff has an investment focus in business and consumer Internet and software. He draws upon close to 20 years of experience in software-related industries as a developer, strategist and investor to identify next generation companies poised to take advantage of emerging market trends.
Prior to Castile, Mr. Besthoff was a principal at Rho Ventures where in eight years he developed a strong record of investing in and participating on the boards of market-transforming software, Internet and digital media companies including Everdream (acquired by Dell) and IntraLinks (NYSE: IL). He currently serves on the boards of ByAllAccounts, Eightfold Logic and Health Guru.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Besthoff held multiple roles in strategy and technology consulting firms with a consistent focus on the technology sector, serving clients ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies. He helped launch several businesses from the inception stage and also developed keen insights into how enterprises adopt and leverage technology. Notably, he spent five years as a consultant and manager at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) where he led large-scale systems development projects for leading multi-national corporations.
Mr. Besthoff is a Venture Advisor to Cornell’s Entrepreneurship Program and is active in both regional and industry associations focused on emerging technologies and entrepreneurs. He is also a regular speaker at his alma maters, Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council, MIT, The Funding Post, and The Technology Capital Network. Mr. Besthoff is a graduate of Hamilton College with a BA in Economics. He received his MBA with honors from Cornell University where he was awarded the distinguished Alfred Fried Fellowship.
James is a co-founder of the firm. He and his teams have had a proven track record effectively building, marketing and selling highly scalable, complex solutions on time and within budget.
Prior to co-founding BAA, James was founder and CEO of Bidder’s Edge, the largest online auction portal servicing greater than 500,000 users on a monthly basis with information available on over 8 million items on a near real time basis. Company revenue grew in excess of 100% each year with expanding profit margins. Prior to Bidder's Edge, James was the founder and CEO of Workgroup Technology Corp., which developed product information management systems for the engineering and manufacturing environments. After 8 quarters of increasing profits the company had a successful IPO on the NASDAQ exchange. Previously James was CEO and founder of WSI (a UNIX based system integrator that developed solutions for the engineering market) which was acquired by BOM Nesbitt Burns; and he ran the Northeast Operations for Computervision, the worldwide leading provider of CAD/CAM systems. While in this capacity he managed both the sales and technical operations. His team was the top producing region for the company on a worldwide basis.
James holds a BS in Finance from Babson College.
Matt Lynch is a Principal of Tiburon Strategic Advisors. With over 25 years of financial services experience, most recently as president & CEO of a leading independent broker/dealer & RIA, Mr. Lynch is viewed as a thought leader and change agent known for his innovative approach to the financial services business.
Prior to Tiburon, Mr. Lynch was president & CEO of Capital Analysts. Before joining Capital Analysts, Mr. Lynch was a director of the business consulting group at Moss Adams, where he was widely recognized for his industry expertise in the areas of succession planning, mergers & acquisitions, and financial services distribution strategies. Previously, he held senior leadership positions with Lincoln Financial Advisors and field management roles with New York Life.
Mr. Lynch has been active in industry associations and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences. Mr. Lynch is a graduate of Xavier University (MBA) in Cincinnati. Additionally, Mr. Lynch holds the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant designations from The American College.
Justin J. Perreault is a general partner of Commonwealth Capital Ventures. Justin has more than 15 years of venture capital and operating experience in information technology industries. He has particular interest in and experience with enterprise application, infrastructure software, and software as a service (SaaS) business models.
Prior to joining Commonwealth, Justin was COO and later CEO of Object Design, a publicly held software company. He was part of the senior team that helped to grow the company’s revenue from $20 million to $70 million, take the company public on NASDAQ, and become the leading company in its market segment. Earlier, he was a vice president at Harvard Management Company, responsible for information technology venture investments, and a consultant with McKinsey & Co., Inc.
Justin received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, summa cum laude, and an MBA from the Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar.
Steve comes to Memento as a seasoned Chief Financial Officer with a broad base of public and private company experience. He has led the accounting, financial planning and analysis, investor relations and human resources functions for several high technology companies.
Prior to joining Memento, Steve served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Constant Contact, a leading provider of email marketing solutions. He co-led the company's $123 million IPO and its $83 million secondary offering, and was part of the executive team that drove compound annual revenue growth of 72% since 2005. Steve has experience in enterprise software and healthcare, and helped lead the financial strategies as the former Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Med-i-Bank, Inc., and at ON Technology Corporation. He has also held leadership positions at The Pioneer Group, Inc., GTECH Holdings Corporation and EG&G, Inc.
Steve holds a B.B.A. from the University of Michigan and an M.B.A. from Babson College.
